Les oiseaux
Paris, 1854
The library was made up during and after the World War II by Federico Caproni, who founded the Areonautic Caproni Industries with his brother Gianni.
Federico Caproni was fond of agronomic sciences, so in the 30s bought a huge estate near Vizzola Ticino and reclaimed all the surrounding lands. He got his industrial generation interested in cultivation, infact in his collection, made of more than 5.000 books, the themes of the reclaims in the autarchic period and the agricultural management are the main issues.
The Caproni collection is quite composite: there are several rare works dealing with agricultural history from XVI to XIX century (“Les oeuvres” by Buffon, “Le cours complet d’agriculture” by Rozier, “Le cultivateur anglais” by Arthur Young, “Dizionario delle scienze naturali” published in 30 volumes in Firenze in 1830), and a section of books written by the most important and famous agronomic theorists belonging to the XX century.
Moreover this collection contains many well preserved magazines.
The booklets, collected in boxes, are cospicuous and deal with many different problems in the agricultural management such as the breeding of stable and courtyard animals and the management of little estates.
Thus Caproni Collection represents a precious reference of historical and technical documentation expressing the intellectual curiosity of a protagonist of our times, who was a capable business man and man of culture.
The Collection has been bought and catalogued thanks to the generous contribute of Cariverona Foundation.
